Bringing together dance and cultural geography

As an adult dancer I create, learn, teach and perform with a keen awareness of my evolving perspective of the world as my body changes. This challenging path is also a joyful practice when it connects me to others who also search for and share their truths through body movement.

I teach and perform popular and ethnic dances from the Latin American Atlantic coasts and the Caribbean, especially Cuba, where the Atlantic slave trade took place. I am moved by the spiritual and sensual power of African Diaspora dances from those regions. My research as a Cultural Geographer which specializes in Nineteenth Century Cuba, has helped me understand the power of these dances.
